Managing Uncertainty During Crisis

Tune in to this session to learn about the role of uncertainty in making decisions, both generally and specific to the EAM environment. Kathy will discuss the differences between decision-making principles in normal versus uncertain “black swan” conditions.

Learn about the parallels to manage variability and quality control. There are two levers to improving outcomes: building skills and managing uncertainty. It will be crucial to build agility into decisions under normal conditions, and will be even more crucial during crisis mode—how do you plan for the known and unknown while managing uncertainties?

Hear about the role of contingency planning and risk tolerance when making decisions.

SAP S/4HANA at Precision Drilling: Two Years Later

Two years ago, Precision Drilling embarked on a greenfield SAP S/4HANA implementation to replace a heavily customized legacy SAP. The organization adopted the guiding principle of standardizing asset management master data and business processes across its global operations.

Join VP of Asset Integrity Graham Macleod and Asset Integrity Manager Lisa Boldt as they walk you through the vision of asset management at Precision Drilling and the tactical implementation of asset management best practices.

Graham and Lisa will share lessons from their SAP S/4HANA implementation and where they are now two years later, including:

  • Building scalable processes to adapt to variations in the operational model

  • Asset life cycle reporting for fact-based decision-making to improve maintenance and reliability

  • The implementation of mobility and user-friendly interfaces

  • How executive support and business engagement are critical to project success

  • The importance of master data governance during project data conversion and beyond

  • Preparing for change, then continuing to change post-go-live

Analytics and Mobility as Key Drivers for Business Excellence

Plant maintenance is a key pillar of the Maple Leaf Foods operational excellence system. In the drive to increase uptime, reduce costs, and extend asset life cycle, the asset reliability group and IS teams at Maple Leaf Foods have embraced a digital future by developing and implementing a custom asset reliability mobility (project ARM) solution with SAP and Apple. The objectives of project ARM were to streamline maintenance processes, increase wrench time, and enable real-time insights. Simultaneously, in order to measure and to drive this transformation, the team implemented a new reliability KPI dashboard to track 13 key metrics for work management, preventive maintenance, maintenance spend, and MRO. After all, what you don’t measure you can’t improve.

The successful deployment of these solutions—due to strong business and IS collaboration and critical user engagement throughout the implementation process—has further moved Maple Leaf Foods along its digital future towards visual scheduling, lubrication, and Internet of Things (IoT).

Key Session Takeaways:

  • Learn how to streamline maintenance processes through workplace digitization.

  • To drive the right behaviors, you must measure them.

  • End-user engagement throughout the implementation process aids in adoption and buy-in.

Leveraging EIM Tools for Asset Excellence in a Complex Utilities Data Transformation

With data coming from over 20 legacy sources, Xcel Energy underwent a data migration in a multi-parallel implementation environment to streamline, simplify, and improve work processes across the company as well as to enhance plant maintenance functionality and better understand maintenance plans. With over 11,000 employees working to service more than five million customers, Xcel Energy has turned to data excellence to drive streamlined and efficient delivery. When Xcel Energy kicked off its Productivity Through Technology (PTT) initiative in 2012, its goal was to uncover innovative solutions to ease employee work challenges while improving operational reliability.

Join Jeff and Braden to learn how Xcel Energy is readying the organization for a journey to SAP S/4HANA and how they conducted six rollouts in 11 months across all critical business units (including the regulatory-heavy nuclear business unit). The migration was no simple task in scope with identification of over 96 million data migration objects. Through the use of the full SAP EIM suite of tools, including SAP Data Services and SAP Information Steward, Xcel successfully converted and created more than 300 million records with a 99.9% conversion success rate and enhanced its asset-management capabilities, resulting in improved operational reliability and customer delivery.

Material Availability Collaboration Within Weyerhaeuser Company

Weyerhaeuser wanted to be able to check material availability on work orders prior to approval. So, the organization developed a solution that allows forecast delivery for all materials based on revision. A custom SAP transaction allows a work order planner to first check material availability based on revision date or basic start date range and longest lead time material on component tab. Attend this session to hear how SAP will review dates and provide a proposal that can be accepted as well as update the revision period or basic start date while removing conflicts with materials not being available on the scheduled start date.

Key Session Takeaways:

  • Mitigates materials not being available prior to work scheduled date

  • Creates opportunity for better communication between maintenance and storeroom around expediting needs

  • Improve planning efficiency
