An Integrated Solution at Cleco

Cleco is a regional energy holding company with 17 generating assets in Louisiana and Mississippi. On May 6, 2019, the organization became North America’s first utility to implement SAP S/4HANA, which included customer information system (CIS), financial systems, supply chain (purchasing and inventory management), and work and asset management for all operating areas (generation, transmission, distribution).

Prior to the implementation, Cleco utilized a disparate group of work and asset management systems. Cleco’s goals in implementing wall-to-wall SAP S/4HANA were standardization across lines of business for reporting and resource optimization; Cleco—in growth mode—wanted an architecture that the acquired companies could buy into and seamlessly integrate to. From an asset management perspective, they wanted to improve efficiency, reduce costs, capture and transfer knowledge, make better decisions on capital and operations and maintenance spend, and improve reliability and availability.

Material Availability Collaboration Within Weyerhaeuser Company

Weyerhaeuser wanted to be able to check material availability on work orders prior to approval.  So they developed a solution that allows forecast delivery for all materials based on revision. A custom SAP transaction allows a work order planner to first check material availability based on revision date or basic start date range and longest lead time material on component tab. Attend this session to hear how SAP will review dates and provide a proposal that can be accepted and updates revision period or basic start date and removes conflicts with materials not being available based on scheduled start date.

Oil Search: Master Data Governance Post Migration and Master Data Transformation Project

Oil Search inherited JDE from Chevron and, over a period of time, had allowed the integrity of that data to degrade to a point where it was no longer trusted. In September 2017 Oil Search embarked on a complete master data re-build / transformation as part of a migration to SAP S/4Hana with a go live in Nov 2018. At the outset there were very few controls in place for master data, no data standards for taxonomy or nomenclature and many disparate systems with varying degrees of integration. This was the initial focus for the data transformation project. Subsequent to that project however and to ensure sustainable assurance of data integrity Oil Search has implemented data governance, applied to all the updated and cleansed master data. The approach included establishing those governance requirements and the selection and implementation of NRX MDG.

You can book one of the available seven slots (first come, first serve) for a one-on-one session with the product manager.

In this session, you can give any feedback of the aforementioned products and on a set of prepared topics. These topics include the use of analytics in SAP IAM, needs to show data on a geospatial map, and a new feature that SAP is working on, the “Workbench.” The product manager will introduce the feature and ask you questions on how it should be designed to better suit your business process needs.

Analytics and Mobility as Key Drivers for Business Excellence

Plant maintenance is a key pillar of the Maple Leaf Foods operational excellence system. In the drive to increase uptime, reduce costs, and extend asset life cycle, the asset reliability group and IS teams at Maple Leaf Foods have embraced a digital future by developing and implementing a custom asset reliability mobility (project ARM) solution with SAP and Apple. The objectives of project ARM were to streamline maintenance processes, increase wrench time, and enable real-time insights. Simultaneously, in order to measure and to drive this transformation, a new reliability key performance indicator dashboard was implemented to track 13 key metrics for work management, preventive maintenance, maintenance spend, and MRO. After all, what you don’t measure you can’t improve.

The successful deployment of these solutions—due to strong business and IS collaboration and critical user engagement throughout the implementation process—has further moved Maple Leaf Foods along its digital future towards visual scheduling, lubrication, and IoT.

Closing the SAP Plant Maintenance Circuit with Newport News Shipbuilding

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) has been improving our SAP Plant Maintenance for the past five years, after living with primarily paper-based processes since originally deploying SAP in 1999. They have now reached the point where they have “closed the circuit.” They have updated work processes and user interfaces for a full circuit of the maintenance process, from identifying work through reporting and analyzing! NNS, partnering with Vesta, involved multiple stakeholders such as craftsmen, supervisors, planners, engineers, and IT professionals to execute a successful rollout of the new automated workflows at a 134-year-old company. A combination of new user interfaces, streamlined business processes, and updated master data were all necessary components to this achievement. Hear how this implementation team took on any and all challenges head-on to transform the way we do business.

How Data-Driven Asset Management Is Maximizing Battle Readiness at Royal Canadian Navy

The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) manages critical assets such as warships and submarines, which are complex, have a long life span, and require ongoing maintenance. With that criticality comes complex bill of materials, many times containing over 20,000 data objects for each unique asset. This means warehouses of spare parts and inventory, which risk becoming obsolete when something is decommissioned. The RCN was paying for warehouse space and facilities to house parts that may no longer match active equipment, but it had no way to ensure data for the assets was recorded and utilized across the organization. RCN approached data quality one asset at a time. It focused on improving the quality of the master records of the submarines and were successful in improving the data quality from 40% to 98%. This allowed RCN to certify the safety of a submarine in two hours compared to its original timeframe of 30 days by ensuring the right spare parts for equipment were available and ready for use. This incredible result gave the RCN the motivation to start addressing data quality of its other assets and reduce overall spare part inventory over time. This session will focus on the imperative to maximize readiness and optimize asset management operations.

In this session, you can give any feedback of the aforementioned products and on a set of prepared topics. SAP Mobile Questionnaires and Purchase Requisitions at Occidental Petroleum Corporation

Occidental Exploration and Production Co. (OXY) recently implemented SAP Work Manager (WM) and SAP Inventory Manager (IM) as part of the ongoing RIO business transformation initiative in which we are moving our core business systems to SAP S/4HANA. During this presentation we will share an update on our business transformation project, our experiences from our South American deployment at the start of 2019, some lessons learned, and how these were incorporated along with new business needs for our North American rollout in 2020 and our plans for the remaining business units in 2021. Additionally, we will highlight two key functionalities developed and introduced with the SAP Work Manager and SAP Inventory Manager mobile applications in support of our operations and supply chain processes. The first one is related to regulatory questionnaires where we will see how various questionnaires and inspection forms are received, answered, and submitted from the mobile app. On the second one, we will showcase the purchase requisition app that can be used to request services, materials, and other items from existing contracts and catalogs. This paper and presentation was developed in partnership with Evora IT Solutions.

Perstorp Group started its global implementation of SAP a number of years ago and decided last year to also initiate a global roll-out of SAP Plant Maintenance to all sites worldwide, replacing four different legacy maintenance systems. The objective is to enable global maintenance processes and reporting, and all sites will move into uniform functional hierarchies and central material administration. The roll-out of SAP PM will coincide with a global operational excellence initiative, including reorganization of all maintenance departments. Automating the Contract Life Cycle Through SAP Ariba

Our previous process of contract routing and life cycle management was manual with many bottlenecks. SAP Ariba acted as the finished contract repository, with one contract administrator creating the request, gathering the documents, walking the paperwork through the approvals before final sign-off and upload. This method was slow and open to errors and missing paperwork.

Approval workflows for new procurement contracts and amendments are now automated in Ariba. Contracts are also routed to all approvers simultaneously, not being delayed by the upstream approver’s signature, and ad hoc approvers can be added during the approval workflow. We are using DocuSign, an e-signature system that integrates with Ariba, to allow digital signatures on the final contract, and via their mobile app for those approvers that travel frequently.

You can book one of the available seven slots (first come, first serve) for a one-on-one session with the product manager.

In this session, you can give any feedback of the aforementioned products and on a set of prepared topics. These topics include the use of analytics in SAP IAM, needs to show data on a geospatial map, and a new feature that SAP is working on, the “Workbench.” The product manager will introduce the feature and ask you questions on how it should be designed to better suit your business process needs.

Breakfast Session: Improving Efficiency with Mobile Apps

A few years ago, Carmeuse realized that the organization needed to start using technology to improve the way it was doing business. So began the journey for digital solutions.

One of the areas where the team believed they would greatly benefit from was their maintenance process. Carmeuse wanted to become more efficient without having to change its existing CMMS (SAP). So, the organization decided to find a mobile app that could help simplify the maintenance process, improve data collection, improve the efficiency of its personnel, and help digitize safety, environmental, and production inspections. Carmeuse was looking for a solution that was easy to implement and very easy to use.

This presentation will explain Carmeuse’s journey from the selection of the mobile app, the implementation of a pilot in one of its plants, the benefits obtained, and the future plans to deploy this technology throughout North America.

Leveraging SAP for the Connected Factory: IoT, Mobility, and Visualization

Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada embarked on a journey to create a connected factory. A critical piece to this connected factory was the shop-floor integration. Previously, Toyota's data was stored in multiple locations depending on the machine it was coming from, and it was not consistent across the systems and had very little integration between SAP and physical equipment. Since Toyota brought the data into SAP, it now captures each event, allowing technicians to take action via work order while providing far more accurate data for analytics and better decision-making. New sensors have also been added to the equipment to monitor vital signs (vibration, temperature, amperage, etc.), so now when an abnormality occurs, the event is triggered in SAP for the maintenance team to follow up, allowing the plant to be predictive instead of reactive. The organization also implemented the SAP mobile tool and has equipped its maintenance technicians with iPads to complete work orders. The maintenance plans in SAP were transformed to include all relevant details including images, work instruction, previous history, etc. and available to a technician while they are working on the shop floor. The last key part of this transformation was the data visualization. Previously, the organization had standard reporting, which didn't allow for any flexibility or a deeper dive. It is now able to create core data service (CDS) views where teams can slice and dice data, allowing them to make smarter and more informed decisions.

On March 31, 2017, GRU (Gainesville Regional Utilities), a municipal-owned utility provider, reimplemented its financial management information system (FMIS) from SAP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4HANA. At that time, the plan was to first reimplement its FMIS, then reimplement the customer service program and move on to an asset management program that would all tie in to each other to give a true ERP. GRU’s customer service project is now under way, and asset management is still on the horizon. But in the interim, a lot of the organization has undergone vast personnel changes. These changes have resulted in a waning of proper inventory management by the operations groups, which the organization needed to address first.

Milliken & Company implemented a plant-floor system simplification. Prior to the project, the company’s manufacturing associates were interacting with multiple systems for production reporting, quality results recording, maintenance alerting, and downtime reporting. To resolve this, it merged the functionality of all of those systems into one user interface using SAP MII. As an additional offering of SAP-Centric EAM & Supply Chain, we are happy to feature “Influence Sessions” with an SAP product manager for the SAP Intelligent Asset Management (IAM) products (AIN, ASPM, PdMS, PEI). You can book one of the available seven slots (first come, first serve) for a one-on-one session with the product manager.

In this session, you can give any feedback of the aforementioned products and on a set of prepared topics. These topics include the use of analytics in SAP IAM, needs to show data on a geospatial map, and a new feature that SAP is working on, the “Workbench.” The product manager will introduce the feature and ask you questions on how it should be designed to better suit your business process needs.

To sign up for a session, simply email SAP Product Manager Oliver Mainka at oliver.mainka@sap.com. Indicate your first and a second choices of slots. SAP customers will be given scheduling preference over SAP partners.

Leveraging User Experience and Mobility at HollyFrontier

HollyFrontier is currently in the process of aligning its refineries into a single instance of SAP Enterprise Asset Management to align its maintenance and supply chain organizations which were previously non-SAP environments. One of the business objectives was to reduce the complexity of high-volume transactions on a desktop or laptop, while enabling a IOS mobile solution that provides the capability of completing the transactions while in an offline mode with the ability to sync when online.

The two target areas of focus include plant maintenance and materials management. The requirements for SAP Plant Maintenance included the ability to navigate equipment hierarchies; identify new work with images; review and approve new work; perform light in-the-field planning; record execution activities such as time confirmations, measurements, and failure codes; access documents associated with equipment and work orders; and perform inspection rounds.

The requirements for materials management included the ability to perform goods issues, goods receipt with image of the packing slip, review and approve purchase requisition approvals, and conduct cycle counting for inventory.

The Hydrogen platform was deployed quickly at the beginning of the blueprint phase in order to play back the conceptual solution and identify areas to enhance to ensure the complete solution was ready for each testing phase. As a result, users are able to carry out testing with less complexity while providing confidence that the solution met the needs of the business.
